superficial
I just don't understand how the world can be superficial. Yes, I'm referring to the WORLD.
Watching Ugly Betty right now so I just had to do some blogging about superficial-ism. Wait, is there even such a word? Superficial-ISM?
Ok whatever. So back to the topic.
So Betty is, well, ugly and she is trying to get a job at this publishing agency for a fashion magazine. Well, this agency is suave, high-class and when she went for the job interview, everyone in the agency just, looked down on her because of her bad sense of fashion and her horrible outlook, geeky spectacles, braced teeth, overweight, unattended hair.. the "works".
Somehow or rather she got hired at this agency but she didn't know that her boss, actually hired her because he was forced to bye his dad. So, her boss is trying so much as to humiliate Betty so that she would quit her job and eventually, her boss was successful in doing so. It ends up Betty, trying hard to get another job but being rejected countless times and her ex-boyfriend is trying to get back with her after dumping her for her next door neighbour.
However, one of her boss realised that he had to overlook Betty's physical self, and somehow or rather, he has accepted Betty as his secretary, and Betty has earn a name in the agency by helping out in one of the modelling projects handled by the agency.
So, reality-check.
The society, no matter how much they try as to stand up for the "negligence" of looks, still prioritise beauty rather than personality and intelligence. Eventhough the message is put up across a TV series, but still, people who are actually facing the same problem as Betty can relate to the series.
I'm beginning to love Ugly Betty. It goes to show how superficial human beings can be.
Yeah, try hiding it.
But, there's always someone seeking... =)
